Major maintenance works to start at M3 Motorway Bridge
Thursday, 10 June 2010Roads Service today announced plans to carry out major maintenance work at M3 Lagan Bridge.
To facilitate the works a series of lane closures will be put in place at weekends beginning on 20 June and continuing until 19 September 2010.
Mark McPeak, Roads Service’s Project Manager said: Lagan Bridge requires replacement of the bridge joints to ensure its continued high performance in coping with today’s traffic volumes.”
The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public, local residents and businesses however some disruption will be unavoidable.
Mr McPeak said: The work has been scheduled to take advantage of reduced traffic flows at weekends. A diversion route will be signposted during each closure. Some delays will be inevitable and we ask that motorists be patient as these essential works progress.”
The closures will take place in four phases as follows:-
Phase 1 – East Bound:
The mainline of the M3 will be closed East Bound (towards Bangor) from the M2 to the Sydenham Bypass. Nelson Street On-slip to Middlepath Street will remain open.

Saturday Night 26 June 20:00 to Monday morning 28 June 06:00
Saturday Night 18 September 20:00 to Monday morning 20 September 06:00
Phase 2 – East Bound:
The slip roads of the M3 will be closed East Bound (towards Bangor) from Nelson Street to Middlepath Street. The mainline of the M3 from the M2 to the Sydenham Bypass will remain open.

Saturday Night 24 July 20:00 to Monday morning 26 July 06:00
Saturday Night 31 July 20:00 to Monday morning 2 August 06:00
Phase 3 – West Bound:
The slip roads of the M3 will be closed West Bound (Towards the M2) from Middlepath Street to Nelson Street. The Mainline of the M3 from the Sydenham Bypass to the M2 will remain open.

Phase 4 – West Bound:
The Mainline of the M3 will be closed West Bound (Towards the M2) from the Sydenham Bypass to the M2. Middlepath Street On-slip to Nelson Street will remain open.
