Murphy - Balanced infrastructure investment key for furture

Wednesday, 9 May 2007

Building on progress to deliver infrastructure for the twenty-first century is vital for the future of the region.

That was the message today from the new Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, MP, MLA.

The Minister pledged his commitment to serve and to be accountable to all of the people. He said: “The quality of life for everyone can be improved by enhancing essential infrastructure services and shaping the region’s long term strategic development in a balanced way which takes account of development across the island.

“The issues dealt with by the Department for Regional Development are essential to support and ensure new areas of economic growth.

“Roads, public transport, strategic and sustainable development and the provision of improved water and sewerage services, impact on every single person and our environment. All of this must be managed in an open, transparent and accountable way.

“I am looking forward to working closely with my colleagues in the Executive, other Institutions and with stakeholders to demonstrate that democratic politics can work for all of the people and real progress can be made on issues that affect everyone’s lives. Let us continue to improve services so we can leave behind a successful legacy in which everyone witnesses real, meaningful and lasting change, which will benefit this and future generations.”
