13 November 2007 - Good progress on £1.7million investment in Cookstown

Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy has welcomed Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £1.7m million in Cookstown District Council area this year.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s meeting between Roads Service and Cookstown District Council, the Minister said: “Significant resurfacing schemes at Fountain Road, Cloghog Road and Dungannon Road in Cookstown have been completed and a right turn lane provided, in conjunction with a developer, at Kilcronagh Industrial Estate on Sandholes Road. The design of the footbridge and link footway adjacent to Ballinderry Bridge is progressing well and it is hoped to purchase the land required to facilitate the footbridge in the current financial year with a view to carrying out the works on site during next year."

Speaking in advance of the meeting Roads Service’s Western Division Manager, Pat Doherty, welcomed the level of investment in local transport and safety measures in the Cookstown District Council area. Schemes included in this year's programme include traffic calming schemes at Ballyronan and Ardboe and the provision of Safer Routes to Schools projects at Coagh Primary School, Moneymore Primary School and St Patrick’s Primary School, Moneymore.

Mr Doherty said: “We will, in delivering any scheme, attempt to minimise the disruption that will arise from our works and where appropriate will give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to the works.”
