Speaking ahead of tonight’s meeting between Roads Service and Omagh District Council, the Minister said: “Significant resurfacing schemes at Derry Road, Dublin Road and Campsie Road in Omagh have been completed as well as a resurfacing scheme on the A505 at Barony Road, Creggan. On the capital side the scheme to provide four traffic lanes on Mountjoy Road in Omagh is progressing well and, when completed, this scheme will assist in addressing traffic congestion problems in and around Omagh town centre."
Speaking in advance of the meeting Roads Service’s Western Division Manager, Mr Pat Doherty, welcomed the level of investment in local transport and safety measures in the Omagh District Council area.
As well as the major scheme at Mountjoy Road, Omagh, other schemes in this year’s programme include traffic calming schemes at Fintona and Killyclogher and the provision of Safer Routes to Schools projects at St Joseph’s Primary School Drumquin, St Patrick’s Primary School Eskra and Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School in Greencastle. A combined footway/cycleway has been provided at Festival Park in Omagh and a collision remedial scheme is planned for Kirlish Road, Drumquin.
Mr Doherty said “We will, in delivering any scheme, attempt to minimise the disruption that will arise from our works and where appropriate will give motorists advance warning of roadworks through signage and information prior to the works.”
