The minister said: “Free travel for people aged 60-64 was introduced on 1 October 2008, and provides free bus and rail travel, without time restrictions on most scheduled public transport services within the North. The decision to provide free travel for people aged 60-64 was taken by the Executive. The resources that have been made available are being safeguarded and I remain committed to providing this important concession.
"I would encourage all eligible passengers to take advantage of this opportunity and to apply for their SmartPass if they have not already done so."
To obtain free travel, passengers must obtain a 60+ SmartPass. An application form is available for a SmartPass by telephoning 0845 600 0049 or visiting www.sixtysmartpass.info
