Minister Murphy has written to the Department for Social Development and the Department of the Environment Ministers inviting them to a meeting to discuss what action needs to be considered in the near future.
The Minister said: "I have been listening to the concerns raised by the public about traffic volumes in this area and I welcome the opportunity to discuss these issues with the Mayor of Belfast.
"I believe the best approach is a cross Departmental approach. I will take forward any issues from a roads and public transport perspective in co-operation with other Ministers who have responsibility for both road safety and the urban street design of Belfast City Centre.
"I welcome the opportunity to discuss this issue with the Mayor of Belfast. My officials are continuing to liaise with Translink and the PSNI on this issue. Any proposals to reduce traffic in the city centre would require consultation with all the key stakeholders and a major traffic management project."
As part of its Streets Ahead project the Department for Social Development and Roads Service are working together to develop proposals that will amend the traffic arrangements in Belfast City Centre. A planning application relating to Donegall Place and Castle Place has already been lodged with Planning Service.
The Minister will also be meeting with Unite next month.
