Speaking ahead of this evening’s meeting between Roads Service and Ards Borough Council, the Minister said: "The A20 Southern Distributor was officially opened to traffic in July. Work continues on the spur road into the Castlebawn site, this is anticipated to be completed by the end of this month.
“The Frederick Street link road was opened to traffic last November and other auxiliary works were completed last December."
“Good progress has been made in the delivery of works across Ards Council Area, to date this year. These include junction improvements to Mill Street / Circular Road / Scrabo Road junction in Newtownards. Major resurfacing schemes have also been completed on the A20 Kempe Stones Road, Newtownards, A20 Portaferry Road, Newtownards and the A2 Ballywalter Road, Ballywhiskin. Roads Service 'Safer Routes to School' programme has delivered new signage and roadmarkings at the Greyabbey Primary School, and Victoria Primary School, Ballyhalbert."
Southern Division’s Network Development Manager Mr Reynold Nicholson said: “Other works that are ongoing and programmed to be completed this year include visibility improvements at the junction of the Moss Road with the Ballykeigle Road, Ballygowan and the introduction of traffic calming measures at Victoria Avenue, Newtownards.
"The financial position for the next two years will depend on decisions made by Executive. However Roads Service is still planning improvement schemes and welcomes comments from Council on its programmes."
