Speaking ahead of this evening’s meeting between Roads Service and Craigavon Borough Council, the Minister said: “A major collision remedial scheme to provide a roundabout at the junction of the Cottage Road, Inn Road and Belfast Road, Dollingstown has now been completed. Works started in May 2009 and were completed in August 2009. This scheme provides extensive benefits for traffic progression at this location and improves convenience and safety for motorists and pedestrians.
“Good progress has been made on a diverse range of schemes in the Craigavon area this year. These include localised carriageway widening with the provision of a new footway link on the B2 Derrymacash Road junction with the Ballynery North Road. Traffic Calming has been introduced on the North Circular Road, Lurgan. An extensive programme of resurfacing has also been completed.”
Southern Division’s Acting Divisional Roads Manager Mr Bertie Ellison said: “Other works that have been completed this year in the area include locations subject to the initiative of Roads Service ‘Safer Routes to Schools schemes’ in which enhanced warning signs and road markings are provided. This includes work at the Portadown Integrated Primary School and St John’s Primary School, Eglish Road, Portadown.
"The financial position for the next two years will depend on decisions made by Executive. However Roads Service is still planning improvement schemes and welcomes comments from Council on its programmes."
