25 November 2009 - Progress On £4.2million Investment In Coleraine

Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy has welcomed Roads Service’s progress on investment totalling £4.2million in the Coleraine Borough Council area this year.

Speaking ahead of this evening’s meeting between Roads Service and Coleraine Borough Council, the Minister said: "Just over 7.6km of carriageway has been resurfaced in the Coleraine area this year at a cost of £775,000 which included 1.1km of resurfacing on the B17 Priestland Road, 1.5km on the B64 Edenbane Road and 1.0km on the C543 Moneycarrie Road.

"Also constructed this year was a £145,000 footway/cycleway on the Dunderg Road, which completed the missing link of footway/cycleway between Macosquin village and Coleraine.

"A number of traffic calming measures and safety related schemes have also been constructed on the streets within the Coleraine Council area this year. These measures included a pelican crossing on the Cromore Road close to the entrance of the University and new traffic signals incorporating pedestrian facilities provided at the junction of Bridge Street / Limavady Road / Main Street in Garvagh."

Roads Service’s Acting Divisional Roads Manager, Deidre Mackle, said: "Other works that are of note this financial year include the £310,000 scheme to realign the bend on the Atlantic Road, south of its junction with Islandtasserty Road, which is well under construction. This scheme will improve the forward sight distance around the bend as well as improving the visibility sight splays of the Atlantic Road / Islandtasserty Road crossroads.

"The financial position for the next two years will depend on decisions made by the Executive. However Roads Service is still planning improvement schemes and welcomes comments from Council on its programmes," added Ms Mackle.
