28 September 2007 - Regional Development Minister attends Irish ports association annual conference

Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy, today attended the annual conference of the Irish Ports Association, in Killiney Co. Dublin.

Speaking at the event, the Minister noted the opportunities for the ports in the north to contribute to the Irish economy. He said: “ The return of devolved government to the North, and the greater sense of stability and purpose which has accompanied it, provide economic opportunities for the ports industry”.

Observing that increasingly Irish companies are taking an all-island view of their business, Mr Murphy continued: “ It is essential that the capacity of ports keeps apace with the future growth of the economy across the island of Ireland. The ports in the North have the capacity which is there to be used for the benefit of the economy”.
