Addressing the Annual Conference of the Irish Ports Association in Dundalk, Co Louth the Minister said: “I appreciate that these are indeed challenging times for port management. I commend the effort of those ports that have worked with their users to control charges and have been alerted to the needs of firms encountering financial difficulty.
“I would also commend those ports which continue to make the necessary long-term investment decisions as they look forward to handling the increase in trade that will accompany economic recovery.
The Executive, too, is making its contribution, undertaking the long-term investment in the road transport network in the North servicing the ports. Our 10 year Investment Strategy will deliver investment of some £2.5billion in the strategic road network linking our gateway ports to major towns and cities across Ireland.”
