Strabane woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

She failed to declare employment while claiming Carer’s Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,524. She was given a 2 year conditional discharge, 3 months imprisonment suspended for 2 years and ordered to pay court costs of £31.

The woman was also ordered to repay the outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency through a Compensation Order of £2,204.

This brings to 380 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
