03 February 2010 - Londonderry man convicted of benefit fraud

A man was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ court yesterday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

A man claimed Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit totalling £41,631 while failing to declare employment. He was given a two year prison sentence suspended for three years.

He will also have to repay the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 50 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
