Man convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court

A man was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

The man claimed Income Support totalling £19,223 while failing to declare capital. He was given an 18 month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.

He has since repaid the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 52 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
