Attwood makes final call for views on Ross Street redevelopment
Friday, 3 September 2010Social Development Minister, Alex Attwood, today issued a final reminder to residents seeking to have their views heard on the redevelopment of Ross Street.
Alex Attwood announced plans to replace Ross Street flats and cottages with 11 new family homes last month. Since then, and despite reports to the contrary, the Housing Executive have been meeting with local residents affected by the proposals, to discuss their views, concerns and ideas.
Alex Attwood said: “I have been encouraged by the positive response from the community so far. This redevelopment will not only improve housing in the area, but it also seeks to close off problem alleyways which have, in the past, attracted anti-social behaviour.
“I have already met with many of the local residents and I am glad to see that there is widespread support for the proposals I have brought forward.”
The consultation process on the proposed development of Ross Street flats and cottages will finish on Friday, 10 September 2010 and anyone wishing to take part should send their comments to the Housing Executive before then. A final plan for the area is expected to be drawn up by the end of October.
Alex Attwood added: “These proposals, if adopted, will require a multi-agency approach, particularly if they are to contribute to community safety in the area. I am keen to hear all the views of local people and would encourage anyone with an opinion on the redevelopment of the area to have their views heard.”
Notes to editors:
- 12 flats, 2 x 4 bedroom houses and 6 x one bedroom cottages will be demolished. Initial proposals are to replace them with 11 x 3 bedroom houses. This will be reviewed during consultation at the final design stage.
