04 August 2008 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Antrim Court

Two people were convicted at Antrim Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Leah Connolly (22) of Orchard Hill, Crumlin, claimed Income Support totalling £1,915 while failing to declare she was working. She was given a two month prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay court costs of £76.

Kevin Burnside (39) of Barra Street, Antrim, claimed Income Support totalling £2,066 while failing to declare he was working. He was given a two month prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay court costs of £61.

Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 259 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
