06 June 2008 - Ballycastle man convicted of benefit fraud

A Ballycastle man has been convicted at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Martin McGarry (38) of Leyland Park, Ballycastle claimed Income Support totalling £2,769 while failing to declare his wife was working. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay court costs of £61.

Mr McGarry is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 183 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
