07 October 2008 - Magherafelt woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Magherafelt Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Lavinia Cooke (49) of Springhill Road, Magherafelt claimed Income Support totalling £3,675 while failing to declare she had capital. She was fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs of £67.

She will also have to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 373 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
