08 September 2008 - Three convicted of benefit fraud at Dungannon court

Three people were convicted at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Janette Morgan (37) of Foxborough, Dungannon claimed Income Support totalling £3,465 while failing to declare she was working full time. She was given six months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £49.

Leona Mullen (24) of Woodburn Crescent, Dungannon claimed income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,503 while failing to declare she was working full time. She was given 80 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £31.

Nicholas Hamilton (41) of Knockmany Road, Augher claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £8,424 while failing to declare he had capital. He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for three years, fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs of £10.

All are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 315 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
