08 September 2008 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Newtownards court

A woman was convicted at Newtownards Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Agnes Ennis (46) of Claggan Walk, Dundonald claimed Housing Benefit totalling £4,823 while failing to declare she had capital.

Ms Ennis was given a twelve month conditional discharge and is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 311 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
