Two people were convicted at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
James Owens (46) of Knockninny Park, Drumkillen claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £7,393 while failing to declare he was working full time. He was fined £250 and given a five month prison sentence suspended for 2 years.
Martha McDermott (26) of Railway Cresent, Newtownbutler claimed Carer’s Allowance totalling £4,402 while failing to declare she was working full time. She was given a three month prison sentence suspended for two years.
Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 317 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
