Two convicted of benefit fraud at Strabane court

Two people were convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ court today for claiming benefits the were not entitled to.

A man claimed Income Support totalling £6,475 while failing to declare capital. He was given a six month prison sentence suspended for three years.

Another man was fined £500 for duplicate encashment of Income Support totalling £174.

They will also have to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 428 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
