The consultation document published by DSD on 24 April 2008 sets out the draft framework for the regeneration of this area of Belfast long neglected. The EQIA launched today invites the public and equality organisations to express their views on the equality of the draft framework.
The Minister said: “Section 75 equality considerations are an important aspect of my Department’s approach to finalising this draft regeneration framework. We are keen to receive the views of all those who represent Section 75 groups and other stakeholder views on equality issues in the area."
DSD has already consulted on the proposals set out in the Draft Framework which aims to create a new urban village on the northside of Belfast city centre. The framework has the potential to deliver clear benefits, including over 800 residential units, 20% of which will be affordable and social housing, and 1,700 jobs in the office, retail, leisure, restaurant and education sectors.
The consultation responses already received on the Draft Framework, together with responses to the EQIA consultation document, will be considered by DSD in finalising the framework as adopted Departmental policy.
The EQIA consultation period will run from 11 August 2008 to 31 October 2008. Copies of the EQIA consultation document and the Draft Framework can be obtained from the Department for Social Development, Belfast City Centre Regeneration Directorate, 2nd Floor, Lesley House, 25 Wellington Place, Belfast, BT1 6GD, Tel: (028) 9027 7656 Fax: (028) 9027 7655 .
