14 August 2008 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Strabane court

A woman was convicted at Strabane Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Ann Darragh (37) of Seein Park, Strabane claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totaling £4,488 while failing to declare capital.

Ms Darragh was given a two year Conditional Discharge and a three month custodial sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £72.

She is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 273 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
