Cookstown men convicted of benefit fraud

Two people have been convicted at Dungannon Magistrates' Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

A 30 year old man from Cookstown claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £3,574 while failing to declare capital. He was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay £61 court costs.

He is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

A 62 year old man from Cookstown claimed Income Support and Pension Credit totalling £9,176 while failing to declare capital. He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £49 court costs.

He has repaid the money he wrongfully obtained.

Four convicted in Belfast

Four people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

A 29 year old woman from Belfast was given a 12 month probation order and ordered to pay £50 court costs for duplicate encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £214.

A 47 year old from Belfast was given a £300 fine and ordered to pay £31 court costs for failure to declare employment while claiming Income Support totalling £2,765.

A 29 year old man from Antrim Road area of Belfast was fined £250 and ordered to pay £37 court costs for failure to declare employment while claiming Jobseekers Allowance totalling £1,085.

A 55 year old woman from Belfast was fined £400 and ordered to pay £34 court costs for failure to declare employment while claiming Carer’s Allowance totalling £10,477.

All are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 313 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
