Ritchie announces funding for community consultation in Enniskillen
Tuesday, 16 February 2010Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced funding for a consultation on a new community building in Enniskillen.
The consultation will consider a number issues including:
- the type of community building;
- its functions;
- its ownership/management; and
- car parking & security.
The consultation will cover the Galliagh, Windmill Heights and Rossory Church Roads areas of Enniskillen.
Margaret Ritchie said: “The need for a community venue in the West End of Enniskillen has been acknowledged by the residents, Fermanagh District Council and the Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership. This consultation will enable local residents to express their views about the proposal for the development of the facility.
“By contributing to this project my department is demonstrating its commitment to improving the quality of life and social conditions for people living in the Enniskillen area.”
Funding for the consultation was been secured from the Department for Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund. The consultation will be undertaken in partnership between Fermanagh District Council and Groundwork NI.

1. The Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy ‘People and Place’ which was published in June 2003, sets out government’s proposals for closing the gap between the quality of life for people in the most deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of society.
- The Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy has four interlinking strategic objectives
- Community Renewal – to develop confident communities that are able and committed to improving the quality of life in the areas.
- Economic Renewal – to develop economic activity in the most deprived neighbourhoods and connect them to the wider urban economy.
- Physical Renewal – to help create attractive, safe and sustainable environments in the most deprived neighbourhoods.
- Social Renewal - to improve social conditions for the people who live in the most deprived neighbourhoods through better co-ordinated public services and the creation of safer environments.
