Two women convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court

Two women were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

A woman failed to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £4,098. She was given an 18 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £73.

Another woman failed to declare employment while claiming Income Support totalling £537. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £52.

Both are also required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
