Two women convicted of benefit fraud at Bangor Court

Two women were convicted at Bangor Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

One woman claimed Income Support totalling £1,183 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £150 and ordered to pay £31 court costs.

Another claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £1,011 while failing to declare employment. She was given a three month sentence, suspended for three years, and ordered to pay £84 court costs.

Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

A man was convicted at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to. The man (28) from Clogher claimed Income Support totalling £3,973 in Northern Ireland while having a dual claim in the Republic of Ireland. He was given a 120 hours community service and ordered to pay £34 court costs.

He will also have to repay the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 316 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
