Four convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry Court
Friday, 16 October 2009Four people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates' Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
A man was fined £350 and ordered to pay £34 court costs for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £72.
A woman was fined £450 and ordered to pay £60 costs for failure to declare employment while claiming Income Support totalling £190.
Another woman was fined £150 and ordered to pay £37 court costs for wrongful encashment of Income Support.
And a man was given a £250 fine, a two year conditional discharge and was ordered to pay £103 court costs for failure to declare capital while claiming Jobseekers Allowance and Income Support totalling £4,680.
All are required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 355 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
