Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA, officially opened the Mayobridge Environmental Improvement Scheme today.
The scheme includes improvements to the pedestrian footbridge, footpaths, lighting, bus shelter and the removal of tree stumps in the central village area at a cost of over £140,000.
Speaking at the opening of the Scheme, Minister Ritchie said: “These improvements will benefit those living and working in Mayobridge. It will make the village more appealing to residents and visitors alike. I would like to congratulate all those involved in the development and delivery of this excellent scheme, in particular the Mayobridge Development Group. Without the voluntary efforts of the Development Group, projects like this could never be delivered. This scheme sees much needed improvements to the appearance of Mayobridge. ”

- The total cost of the scheme was £140,625. This includes £50,000 from the Department for Social Development, £50,000 from the International Fund for Ireland and £31,875 from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and East Border Region Tourism Partnership, £5,000 from the Newry & Mourne District Council, £3,500 from the Ulster Wildlife Trust and £250 from the Department for Regional Development.
