Londonderry woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Londonderry Magistrates Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

She claimed Income Support and Carer’s Allowance totalling £7,541 while failing to declare employment. She was given four months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay £79 court costs.

She is required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 317 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
