19 January 2010 - Newry woman convicted of Benefit Fraud

A Newry woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates' Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

She failed to declare capital while claiming Income Support totalling £16,508. She was fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs of £37.

She is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 19 the total number of successful prosecution this year.
