21 January 2010 - Newcastle woman convicted of Benefit Fraud

A woman was convicted at Newtownards Magistrates' Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

She failed to declare capital while claiming Housing Benefit totalling £27,230. She was given 12 months imprisonment suspended for two years.

The woman is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 25 the total number of successful prosecution this year.
