Attwood launches new Immigration Advice Service in Strabane
Thursday, 21 October 2010Social Development Minister Alex Attwood today launched Strabane Ethnic Community Association’s (SECA) new Immigration Advice Service in Strabane.
SECA was founded in April 2004 and is a focal point for minority ethnic communities resident in the Strabane area.
The new Immigration Advice Service was introduced by the Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities (NICEM) and will operate one day a week in Strabane to provide the ethnic community with professional expert advice, support and information in relation to all their needs.
Alex Attwood said: “In order to improve social cohesion and deal with inequality it is essential that those who come to work in our country are provided with the best support and advice possible. Minority groups play an important role economically as well as through broadening our cultural identity. Supporting this project through my Department's Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy means we can help improve the lives of immigrants as well as the lives of the resident population.”
Notes to editors:
- The Department, through NWDO, has provided Neighbourhood Renewal investment funding of £77,157 to SECA to finance a Development worker post and associated running costs for the period 1 September 2008 to 31 March 2011.
