22 June 2009 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Dungannon court

A woman has been convicted at Dungannon Crown Court for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Amelia Stirrup (35) of Sandholes Road, Cookstown claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £21,936 while living together as husband and wife. She was given a nine month sentence suspended for two years.

Miss Stirrup is required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 224 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
