23 September 2008 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Ballymena court

Two women were convicted at Ballymena Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Colleen McKessick (46) of Hamilton Park, Ballymoney was fined £150 and ordered to pay court costs of £46 for claiming Incapacity Benefit totalling £3,987 while failing to declare promptly that she was working.

Frances Lynn (56) of Lantarra, Ballymena claimed Job Seekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £4,109 while failing to declare she was working full time. She was fined £250 and ordered to pay court costs of £64.

Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 352 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
