Four convicted of benefit fraud at Londonderry court
Monday, 24 May 2010Four people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
A 47 year old Londonderry man claimed Income Support totalling £1,606 while failing to declare employment. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay court costs of £109.
A 64 year old man from Londonderry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £7,558 while failing to declare capital. He was given a two year conditional discharge.
A 25 year old man of Rossnagalliagh, Londonderry was fined £150 and ordered to pay court costs of £37 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £189.
All are also required to repay the money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
Another Londonderry man aged 49 claimed Income Support totalling £7,568 while failing to declare capital. He was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £94.
This man has since repaid the money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
