A woman was convicted at Londonderry Crown Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
Helen McLaughlin (54) of Altcar Park, Galliagh claimed Income Support totalling £43,235 while failing to declare she had capital. She was given 120 hours community service.
Ms McLaughlin is required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
This brings to 231 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
