26 January 2010 - Two convicted of Benefit Fraud at Ballymena Court

Two people were convicted at Ballymena Magistrates' Court today for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

A woman failed to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £3,441. She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £61.

Another woman failed to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £2,624. She was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £82.

Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 35 the total number of successful prosecution this year.
