Attwood starts the building of new houses in Ardglass

Thursday, 26 August 2010

Social Development Minister Alex Attwood has launched the start of building 26 new homes in Ardglass.

The £3.5million development of family housing at Crewhill is being delivered by Ark Housing Association. There will be a total of 22 houses and four apartments, with two of the apartments specifically designed to accommodate the needs of independent older people.

Minister Attwood said: “In times of economic hardship, a comfortable warm home is a necessity. These houses and apartments will address the need of families in the area. Even when my department’s budget is being reduced, I still have to find money to ensure that those in housing distress have access to a home.

“A key priority for my Department is an increase in quality and energy efficient homes. I very much welcome this latest initiative from Ark Housing Association that will make a positive impact on already falling waiting lists.

“This new family accommodation means that people from the community with young families and aspirations for the future can stay, maintain and sustain this growing community. These homes for life are part of my Department’s ongoing commitment to the sustainability of rural districts.”

The houses and apartments are being constructed by Kelly Brothers, with completion of the full scheme planned for November 2011.
