28 August 2008 - Man convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast court

A man was convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Stephen McIlhone (22) of Little Georges Street, Belfast, claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance totalling £131 while failing to declare he was working full time from December 2005 to January 2006. He was fined £200.

He is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 294 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
