29 June 2009 - Man convicted of benefit fraud at Coleraine court

A man was convicted at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Michael Gibson (22) of Finvoy Road, Ballymoney was given a £250 fine and ordered to pay £40 court costs for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £123.

Mr Gibson is also required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money he wrongfully obtained.

This brings to 232 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
