29 July 2010 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Belfast Court

Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

A Belfast man (55) claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £18,165 while failing to declare capital. He was given a £250 fine and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

A Belfast woman (29)claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £10,144. She was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

Both are also required to repay outstanding money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
