Minister Ritchie condems racist posters in Banbridge

Tuesday, 15 April 2008

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today condemned people who erected racist posters in Banbridge at the weekend.

The Minister met today with local MLA George Savage, to discuss the matter. Margaret Ritchie said: “I am grateful to Mr Savage for giving me a full report on this unacceptable, despicable behaviour. I know it only needs a small number of people to stir up this form of hatred. I, like the vast majority of people of Banbridge condemn this.

“As Social Development Minister with responsibility for housing and communities, I am committed to a shared future. But that is not simply Catholics and Protestants living in harmony. It is all of us. Our new citizens, who contribute so much to our economy and society, must be part of that shared future. I will be working to ensure that we in Government work together to stand up for ethnic minorities.”
