21 April 2009 - Woman convicted of benefit fraud at Newry Court

A woman was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Siobhan McCormack (25), of Laurel Hill, Newry claimed Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £8,385 while failing to declare she was employed. She was given a two month jail sentence suspended for three years.

Miss McCormack is required to repay the money she wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 137 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
