24 April 2009 - Ballymena court convicts in benefit fraud case

A man has been convicted at Ballymena Magistrate’s Court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

David McCooke (57) of Orkney Drive, Ballykeel was given eight months probation for failing to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £16, 491.

Mr McCooke is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 147 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
