Ritchie funds £700,000 for road improvements in Strabane
Monday, 27 April 2009Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced that the Strabane area has benefited from an additional £700,000 funding boost for roads service projects.
The funding went towards a range of improvements in the local Neighbourhood Renewal Area. This included:
- upgrading footpaths and carriageways;
- new street lighting; and
- improving drainage.
The projects covered the Ballycolman, Church View, Newton Place, Springhill Park, Innisfree Gardens, Drumrallagh Estate and Dock Street areas.
Margaret Ritchie said: “This is good news for the people of Strabane. I am pleased to have secured this additional funding through the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme for road service projects. The improvements enhance the physical condition of the local areas. They help create a safer and more attractive place for residents to live and bring up a family.”
The Minister continued: “The upgrade to Dock Street also improves links to the recently opened state of the art Alley Arts Theatre.”
This work was undertaken on the Department’s behalf by the Road Service Western Division. It was overseen by the Department for Social Development’s North West Development Office.
