Three men were fined at Belfast Magistrates’ Court today on separate charges of falsely obtaining social security benefits.
George Jamison (60), of Trossachs Drive, Belfast, had claimed £5,737 in Income Support and Housing Benefit whilst not declaring that he had savings. He was fined £400 with £46 costs.
Michael Stevenson (28), of Lagmore Glen, Dunmurry, had falsely obtained £569 through duplicate encashment of payment orders. He was fined £200 with £56 costs.
Kevin Owens (28), of Horn Drive, Suffolk, had claimed £135 in Jobseekers’ Allowance whilst working. He was fined £200 with £25 costs.
All three are required by the Social Security Agency to repay the money that they dishonestly obtained. These cases bring the total of successful prosecutions for benefit fraud to 237 so far this year.
