29 August 2007 - Belfast woman convicted of £44,000 for benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Belfast Crown Court today for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

Mary Louise Keenan (46), of Croaghan Gardens, Belfast, had failed to disclose her savings while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £44,538. She was given an 18 month prison sentence, suspended for three years.

Ms Keenan will also have to repay the money she received to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 247 the number of convictions secured so far this year by the Social Security Agency in its campaign against benefit fraud.
