Minister Ritchie presents NICVA LINK awards

Thursday, 7 February 2008

Social Development Minister, Margaret Ritchie tonight presented NICVA LINK awards at a ceremony hosted in the Ramada Hotel.

Representatives from province wide businesses, schools, colleges, clubs and societies were recognized for their tremendous support which they have given to local charities and community organisations over the last year.

Speaking at the awards, Minister Ritchie said: “I am truly inspired by the generosity of spirit and purpose which seems to come naturally to the people of Northern Ireland. Despite our difficulties and day to day pressures, we are generous with our time, our money and our commitment to help those less fortunate.

"I believe that the charity sector has made, and continues to make, an invaluable contribution to our society. And I acknowledge and admire the support provided by the business community represented here tonight.

"Indeed, I would encourage other business and community leaders to follow your example. Your involvement and support can make a huge difference to those less privileged in our society.”

The annual awards, in their 21st year, recognise the valuable contributions made towards supporting charities and voluntary and community organisations.

Minister Ritchie went to say: “Tonight’s awards acknowledge the hugely rewarding engagement by both business and communities with the statutory and voluntary and community sectors."

"I welcome the wide range of businesses, schools, colleges, clubs and societies represented here this evening.”
